The standup comedian commentary rings true with me. I am Gen X, having grown up listening to the Stern Show from the late 80s into the 90s. One of his joke writers at the time, Jackie the Jokeman Martling, used to do standup routines during the week. He would do a show at the Improv in Philly until midnight, then drive back and be on the air the following morning by 5am for the show to begin at 6. Jackie was called 'King of the one liners', and he was. His jokes were dirty, rapid fire, and spared no one......and no one cared, because we were all there to laugh.

I have not paid attention to standup comedy much, but the beginning of the downfall of standup I believe was when Michael Richards (Cramer on Seinfeld) did his tirade using the N word and essentially had his career ruined. That was around 2006 or '07.

That’s absolutely correct man! And yeah I’m glad you appreciated this I was glad we got it in, in truly believe there are many people alive today who are sincerely unaware of the fact that stand up used to be really good

Remember the show 'Evening at the Improv'? How many legends of comedy got their start at that small venue in NYC?

Sir, sounds like you’re not hanging around any libertarians 😆

Great interview, but I have to make a distinction. Stand up did indeed take some lumps, starting with Jon Stewart’s millennial snot charge, and accelerating during the Obama era. However, it has seen a renaissance because of 2 things: the cancellation and resurrection of Shane Gillis, and the founding of a Third Place for Comedy by Saint Rogan: Austin, Texas.

Good analysis of reddit. Pointing out the role Something Awful had as an incubator, particularly the FYAD and Laissez Faire subforums. IIRC chapo trap house has their roots at SA.

The right-wing version of this person is slightly less deracinated so instead of Disney/Marvel will grow obsessed with war, guns, history or religion.

I'm mostly joking. I wouldn't use smh seriously.

If anyone is wondering, he's been on Odysee (the video platform) and consistently streams about relevant historical or cultural phenomenon typically once or twice a week. His coverage of historical efforts to correct the path of the post-war order really drives home the severity and nature of the situation we find ourselves in, which is the general through-line of his work.

The problem with Devon is that his content is really just rinse and repeat: Go back to a time period, find commercials/movies and who made them, analyze them for indoctrination points, then talk about how screwed we are. 3 to 4hrs of that. It gets quite depressing, so I stopped watching. That woman 'Blonde in the Belly of the Beast' interviews him several times per year. He gets a lot of Pagans and right wing atheists who like to argue with Christians in the comments section.
