This is solid gold. Maybe the reason we can detect no galactic empires or any signs of advanced life is that no civilization has ever survived past the digital age.

Great post! Loved this: "Once the human face is mapped by the digital and relocated to cyberspace, what remains is the placid, featureless stare of the machine".

We've been writing on similar topics, i.e. this hyperreality and its impact on finance/economics/society in our ongoing series the Sorcerer's Apprentice.

I'd like to add to this. My favorite part is "But these shifts in gaze take time, and perhaps currently we are living in the interregnum phase in which humanity is still in the process of reorientation and has not quite yet fixed itself on anything or, to put it another way, the paradigm shift is underway but we are not in the new paradigm yet. For this reason the current cultural focus has been on determining identity."

You're asking a great question which is basically---where will the focus of our fear derive after we've gotten over the gaze-towards-the-machine that defined industralization and computerization. I think the answer to this is gaze-towards-globalism—e.g. not the machines, but the people who operate them behind the scenes. More and more you see "fear-of-illuminati," basically of all powerful hidden cults, creeping into films—Hostel, Eyes Wide Shut, Kill List, The Invitation, Midsommar. I think fear of a powerful group of string pullers that we can't quite see will define the next era.

Great insight. The entire thrust of Q and Trump was for trump to crush and clear away these string pullers. I think when politics are finally removed from our grasp completely, when voting is outlawed, the real crazy conspiracies about our rulers will begin.

Hello. I have read none of your post, but I am sure it is of a certain quality. My Substack, Templist Canon, is not "just another Substack", but an eminently wise new religion which you cannot help but become a disciple of. Thank you.
