Great talk. I was working on a painting while listening, true story. The guy who called us a retarded generation is correct, retard here, can confirm. Another guy mentioned "canonical shift"-- no one writes epic poems anymore and perhaps David Foster Wallace's failure to write a Moby Dick is because the novel went the way of epic poetry. I bring this up because I think you should consider video games more--you mentioned literature and movies as potential media for the art that combats nihilism but not video games; perhaps this is another canonical shift? I know most games are shit but so are most things. IMO Infinite Jest is largely "about" the tension between art and entertainment, maybe a good game could be both entertaining and quality art. Maybe a video game fundamentally can't fight nihilism (then why can a movie?) Anyway, might be something worth exploring (I would listen.)
