The idea that an individuals consciousness or Self or personality exists prior to or after physical incarnation is the silliest form of ego-attachment imaginable. Ignore ANY “religion” or spiritual “teaching” that gives you the impression that your identity persists after your body dies. The “spirit” of the world or universe is a unified Oneness and it has no identity or separation, it is like a great energy field out of which things - matter - coalesce, and our human consciouses is the highest form of matter, it crystallizes the Oneness into a point of singularity and is quite literally God waking up to experience himself. Our collective consciousnesses are God opening his Third Eye.
There is no point to being alive beyond experiencing the fleeting joys of material existence: sensation, emotion, ecstasy.
But life is brutal, violent, and as I said, fleeting. It is a mighty struggle to assert our Will and overcome the loss and pain of life. Currently we live in a clearing within nature, inside the womb of technology that separates us from nature and it’s uncaring attrition. In pre-technological societies this womb was religion, or warfare, any human endeavor that cleared a space within the greater context of hostile nature that allows the human animal to flourish to his full potential.
That’s what culture IS: a bulwark against Mother Nature who wants to smother you and all life, all higher forms of life. Humans, because of our frontal cortex, our one faculty that sets us apart from the beasts, use this newfound brain apparatus to bring ourselves UP out of nature and clear a space for the higher and strongest among us to actualize their full potential. Once that is established it brings along many others who would’ve surely perished to then come along and have the joyous experience of being alive.
But humans are not beasts of the field, we are predators. Our “programming” our “nature” is to struggle and to fight to maintain ourselves and our existence. So once we’ve set up this clearing we get bored and revert to our inherent animalness, attacking and violently harming others out of the survival instinct for violence. Violent entertainment is a productive sublimation of this tendency.
The point of all this is that the human identity, the singular ego we experience is purely the result of this clearing we set up in the face of nature. Some people attain a higher form of consciousness than others, and this is due partially to tradition and partly to something innate, or genetic, beyond the scope of this conversation. Suffice it to say it is not a coincidence that Protestantism, a Northern European religion, is the biggest proponent of the Self in human history. Prior to that it was always the elevation of the King or the Emperor as the singular ego that represents not only all of humanity but also acted as a conduit to God or the gods. Protestantism amounts to the self mastery of the Ego, but where it goes wrong is thinking anyone outside its cultural context is capable or even interested in this self-mastery.
But now the sacred and the holy is centered within the individual, the conduit to god is no longer the authority figure administering the ritual to a mass, it is now you yourself. Protestantism sacralizes the Ego. The Ego is something divine that you utilize to have communion with God…in fact it is the *only* thing on the planet that grants you access to gods love.
So in this society, wherein we already have the pleasure and joy of experiencing the ego in all its carnal splendor, we have the added detail that it is in fact a Holy faculty.
Our task is to overcome this delusion and find the Holy in the world outside us, the world around us, the universe itself. All matter is holy, all creation is a manifestation of the divine. Our purpose is to enjoy it, to rejoice in its splendor for a little while, to enjoy our ego for a time, and then let it go, give it up to God and understand that it’s a barrier to Him, it gets in the way of communion with God, and that when we die the ego dissolves into the Oneness. That is the rapture spoken of in the Bible, not some childish idea of an “experience” of God. That “experience” is only possible while we are alive, and it is not done through some sort of personal relationship with the text of the Bible. Anyone telling you your personality somehow persists and can be reincarnated in another is a deluded charlatan.
Protestantism is a lie, it’s foisting the entire burden of existence on the individual.
The thing you need to understand is that your actions do nothing for your soul after death. We all go to the same place. “Morality” is just a tool of control to keep people in line while culture perpetuates itself to make this clearing and persist into the future. And now that the mainframe keeping the threat of nature is up and running, people begin to descend into hedonism. Hedonism is idol worship and the idol is the ego.
What we need is a cleansing fire to come and wipe away the underbrush, a flood to wash away the detritus that accumulates and feeds off the powerful and the world they made. When a human being is awake, their brain swells and metabolic process go on, and along with that cellular waste products accumulate as cells produce waste and break down and make themselves anew. One reason we need sleep is to turn these cells off and they deflate, and lymph and blood flow through the brain, the deflated cells separate and tiny channels open up between them for this flood to wash away the waste products of the day and expel them. Otherwise, they become toxic free radicals and other deleterious products that damage healthy tissue.
This society has been awake for too long, perhaps what we need is a cosmic sleep.
